 This is a glorious story of Mary of Bethany, the sister of Martha , who sat at the feet of Jesus and who chose that one thing (Psalm 27:4). This is the same Mary of Bethany, who when her brother Lazarus died, was not offended at God but continued to pursue that one thing intimacy (John 11:20). And when she wept, she moved the heart of Jesus to tears and moved heaven to say, “Take away the stone”! My God- Mary of Bethany! And after Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, in chapter 12 of John you see this Mary of Bethany breaking out the Alabaster Jar filled with oil and cracking it open and to wipe the feet of Jesus with her hair. This is a gnarly story that we must stop and consider this reality of this passion. We are talking about a year’s wages. For some that $200,000 and for some that’s $36,000,  whatever the amount- money represents time- which in turn represents your life. When you have to work a job or even go on a skateboard trip to film, you get compensated in the form of money for your invested time and work.

I believe only from the place of one thing intimacy (Psalm 27:4) can one even make such a sacrifice. This story has striked the core of my heart with this sobering question- “What is my Alabaster Jar?” I tried to picture myself in the mental pysche of Mary of Bethany when she wasted this grand investment on the feet of Jesus- “Lord, here is my 401k plan, here is my security in earthly riches, here is offering of my time… Lord here is all that I have- I am yours.” I don’t believe it was even a huge issue in her heart because I believe she knew that this was GOD and she was awakened to his love.

What is my Alabaster Jar? Without instantly satisfying our minds in defaulting to the daily things we do for the Lord which are good, sincerely begin to ask God that question from the heart- He will show you. I am. Jesus said that this story of Mary of Bethany and the Alabaster Jar will be told wherever the gospel is preached was to awaken our hearts to the glory of our lives- which is to live a life absolutely wasted on God.

Remember- this is not Africa, this is in North America! One story in particular, there was a little boy in a wheelchair suffering from Muscular Dystrophy who was believing that God wanted to heal him and dozens of kids were weeping in unity with him for God to heal him that night. He couldn’t get out of the wheelchair that night. The next morning his mom goes to put in the wheelchair, however his legs were strengthened and was up walking on his own completely forgetting about getting in the wheelchair! This is the reality that God is manifesting this hour- Emmanuel, “God with Us.”

There was such a sweet presence of God in that conference empowering us to love Him more. God not only gave them desert that night, but Sunday morning he spoiled us again. Holy Spirit spoke to my spirit and said “There is fire in the kitchen- I am going to cook something sweet again.” The service spontaneously broke out to kids getting up one by one and began sharing about what God was doing in their lives. Some had “the preach” for real! You would’ve thought they went to seminary for a couple years by the revelation and wisdom they shared. There was an activation and a release of the prophetic spirit within them as God awakened them to their identity.
